The $1 a Day Campaign is a strategic initiative of the Alliance of Students Against Poverty (ASAP), which is a global campaign to eradicate extreme poverty worldwide by mobilizing the idealism and talents of today’s students.
ASAP knows that a united body of students will have the power to generate and implement creative solutions to eradicate extreme poverty in their communities and throughout the world. Furthermore, ASAP seeks to inspire, educate and prepare young people to become the future leaders of civil society, government and the private sector, ensuring they put extreme poverty where it belongs—in our history books.
Nevertheless, ASAP is doing everything it can do, right NOW as well, to make sure every family can start on the path out of extreme poverty toward economic self-reliance. Currently, there are hundreds of organizations working to eradicate extreme poverty, and many are underfunded in their efforts. ASAP seeks to find and support the best and most effective of these organizations.
At a time when donors are demanding more transparency and accountability from those they support, ASAP is committed to employing strict and exact funding standards to meet these demands.
First, ASAP is governed by a skilled and experienced board of directors that provide oversight of the $1 a Day Campaign Fund. All $1 a Day Campaign funded organizations have to receive the meticulous approval of the ASAP board.
Furthermore, ASAP students, through summer internships, are intimately involved in the research, selection and monitoring of our funded organizations. Students, as researchers, often show more objectivity and independence than paid staff or consultants. Furthermore, they bring to their internships excellent skill sets in information technology, modern internet communications, statistics and social science research.
Finally, through their internships, students ensure the $1 a Day Campaign Fund is being used in the most effective way and provide donors with on-the-ground footage of the stories and experiences of those individuals on the road to economic self-reliance.
